Why are McCain supporters so fond of innuendo and guilt by association? ... A lesson from 1984 (the book): control language and you control thought; control thought and you control actions. If you can pollute an avenue of exploration, or a word (for instance: every time someone talks about income inequality, you scream 'socialism!' or 'class warfare' ;or every time someone wants to criticize Israel vs. the Palestinians you yell "Anti-Semite!") you are more than halfway to closing off an area of debate you find discomfiting ; and you do it because it contains too many liabilities for your cause. Innuendo and guild-by-association are cousins in the same family -a matter of throwing mud and seeing what sticks. We live in an age where 'the Truth' seems to mean "anything that cannot not be proved false". To quote Emilio Lazardo (of Buckaroo Bonzai fame)Character is what you are in the dark.
