Business Model: WIND vs. RHAT

Speaking of being takeover bait...

We're fortunate that Redhat isn't still at "nosebleed" valuations; otherwise, we might already have been consumed by them. I say "fortunate" because, IMHO, Redhat and the other Linux companies have much less attractive long-term business models than WIND due to lack of royalties, architectural control, etc. The problem with earning all your revenue from services is that it's very labor-intensive; hence, it has lower margins, limited leverage, limited ability to harness exponential growth rates brought by "network effects," etc. (Would be glad to be educated more here if someone thinks I'm off-base.)
