i like blackice a lot, tc. i don't like that i paid 40 bucks and coulda' had zone for free. maybe blackice is better, but i have no way of proving that to myself. <g3> i'm not getting that many intrusion attempts. maybe 1 a day. sometimes up to 5. blackice acknowledges that some will be false positives. perhaps that's some of what you are seeing in 20+ a day. like i was always getting hits when i opened or closed realplayer, until a downloaded the upgrade that patched that. whenever i switch mail servers i get another reported attempt, which i am pretty certain now is a false positive. all of that having been said, yes i think there are a lot of hackers out there. thing is, they don't target individuals. they are conducting vast, sweeping scans. many want host machines from which to conduct the sort of attacks we're seeing on ebay and buy.com, etc. and i don't envision their numbers (hackers, crackers) shrinking, do you? :) mark
