John..: ok ,let's get something straight! o know S3 states that the virge (don't know about the vx..) can work up to 60mhz...this speed refers only to the mhz the virge communicates with the video memory.It has nothing to do with your motherboard or anything else...My Diamond stealth 3d 2240 (2mb) (45ns) runs at 55mhz (other generic virge svgas run at 50...) and uses 1 single edo.This means: 64bit (virge's memory bus) * 55mhz *1/1 (1 byte takes one 1 edo cyle...) /8 (8 bits per byte) =440mb/sec memoey access.I use an utility called mclk and found at: oac.uci.edu. This one reprograms virge's internal reprogrammable memory clock.. and pushes edo access from 55 up to a value ...This value depends mainly on how good is your video memory.This does nothing with your ram dac....it really just increases video memory bandwidth (sorry about the spelling..!).I have been using my vga to 70 and 80mhz..(sometimes even at 82+ ) for 3 months now and it works extremely well and very very fast..It is much faster at "difficult resoltions" (800x600 16.7m, or 1024x768 65536 colors..).Every time you start you pc virge reads the default mhz settings from bios (55 in my case) then you must run mclk and chanche that value..this utility works fine with win95 but not with nt..
