As you well know, 9 Months in the networking industry is "forever". If a company the size of COMS/USRX has a 9 month lead on Rockwell, then I personally think that Rockwell can kiss its ass good-bye.
If your were an ISP, would you wait 9 months for a modem that is "on-par" with X2, just because Rockwell made it. I think you'd have to be an idiot to do that, especially when X2 is here now, and its supported by not only USRX, but by 3Com as well !
Frankly, I've never even heard of a Rockewll modem. Yes they make the chip-sets that modems are made from, but making the chip sets and making a modem, and then selling (marketing) the modem is another thing. Rockwell doesn't know the first thing about mass-marketing. They've been selling chips to the big boys (USRX, etc) for ever and don't know what it means to sell into the main stream.
Rockwell might be big, but they are a "fish-out-of-water" when it comes to making, marketing and competing in the world of modems. |
