Earlier this week an interesting article was posted about Ibm.

Small step for IBM; giant leap for Linux
zdii.com
IBM Corp. announced Thursday what it called the biggest ever commercial use of Linux, inking a deal to outfit a
Japanese convenience chain called Lawson Inc. with more than 15,000 IBM eServers running the alternative operating system.
......
Further reading of the article describe the use of the machines. The article uses the words streaming but the application is a typical web server in the type of data transfers that will take place.

Music is very low bandwidth while the video does need some
b/w. But, if they are only doing video clips, they will
probably just send the data as a file and then play off of
local disk.

The significance of this deal is it helps validate SGI's
direction with Linux. Since IBM does much better (today) in
the commercial space, I'm not surprised to see IBM get this
deal.

Tom Watson tosiwmee I get by with a little help from my friends. All number nine video cards were named after beatle songs.
