In real world terms we need to address some serious issues of pain and human suffering. Gannon is less important than fixing the mess in Iraq. It's less important than fixing the blame for what happened in Iraq. These are the issues that need immediate attention. Politically however, the Gannon affair is important. Because if the truth came out about how a prostitute got preferential treatment, it could destroy the republican's grip on the evangelical base. This is the real reason that the HJC republicans voted against the investigation. At least you can admit that. That's why Hastert covered for gay pedophile Foley for two years. Protect the political base at all costs is the mantra. It looks like the evangelicals will be thinking long and hard before voting for republicans in the future. I don't think that vote is guaranteed any more. I hope that they will look deeper than the rhetorical issues that Bush waves in front of them. The issues of honesty and ending human suffering are much deeper issues for our nation, and I pray that the religious right gets that message from this election.
