They need to validate their perception that the media is biased. So they make shit up to help validate that.

It seems strange to me, but they seem to enjoy their victimhood...

Is it victimhood, or a way to justify their messed up thinking? They set up this construct where the media and scientists are liars trying to fool the public, and then that permits them to believe the way they think..........their crazy, stinkin' thinkin'.......is the right way to think. The closer wingers are to reality the more they will make an effort to bring in legitimate facts to support their positions but those wingers are far and few these days. Most of them are too far gone and have completely disconnected from the facts. That allows them to believe their biases and misconceptions are real.

I haven't found anything in DSM IV, though. I think this phenomenon has been overlooked by mental health professionals.

It needs to be identified. I truly believe its an illness. And I think in extreme cases it can manifest in a group like the Talibans of Afghanistan. At its mildest its a huge pain in the ass and in its extreme form, very dangerous for a society.
