Terrific.

I luv stories like that.

Supporting the troops has to be more than a yellow ribbon if it is to be meaningful.

I was the recipient of similar largesse at a critical financial time in my military life. It was an unexpected and unsolicited gift of $300 that enabled me to buy the new uniforms necessary to attend OCS. Without that gift I could not have accepted the allocation to go to the course. An uncle tried to call me. I was out but one of the Team Sergeants talked to him and told him of my selection and financial difficulty. I was a young GB, married, two kids. There was no such thing as extra money.

I went to OCS, spent the first year as an instructor at Ft Benning jump school and the next four overseas. When I came back, I made a trip to visit that uncle (Korean War Vet) and handed him an envelope with the cash. He then gave me a far greater gift than the first. He handed the envelope back and told me do him a favor and use it to help another good soldier.

That was a lesson I'll never forget.
