Mark Steyn lays it on the line. If Kerry wins, he will resign, because a Kerry win means he doesn't understand America at all, and doesn't want to.
What is there to understand? Win or lose, there are a lot of Americans that do not like George W. Bush - politics aside.
In many people's opinion, George W, Bush has never done anything in his life that wasn't somehow tainted:
1 - His study habits and entrance into elite schools - all due to influence (Prep school, Yale, Harvard). He didn't do anything on merit. And, once he got in, he was more into parties than into studies. He admits to this himself.
2. - His military record, no matter what partisans say, is all about privilege and nothing about service. He was honorably discharged is the best that you could say about his service record.
3. His business success had nothing to do with his own efforts or what anybody else has to do to earn a living. It is about knowing people and using the family name to gain access and gain an unfair advantage.
4. In politics, if his name was not George Bush, he would not have been elected anything. Again it is about privilege and getting unfair advantage.
5. In going to war, it is again not about doing the hard work of trying to sell to the American people the reasons for going to war, he used subterfuge.
A lot of people are passionate about Bush, but not because of who he is, but just because he is doing the things they think Bush is commoitted to doing.
His whole life is about privilege and getting an unfair advantage. In the short run people think they could use him to advance their causes (whatever they may be), but in the long run things can backfire. |
