Limtex and Thread, thanks for the info on Photobit, which looks like a promising technology, at least for lower resolution applications. The Photobit product line includes an imaging sensor that would be sufficient for lower resolution video applications, and probably sufficient for video transmissions via cell phones. If there is an application here for the GSM digital cellular system, there probably is one as well, or will be one for QUALCOMM's CDMA system, which can outperform GSM in many ways.
The camera on a chip is an idea that appeared on some security systems about five to eight years ago, as I recall. The problem always was resolution quality, though the Photobit designs appear to be overcoming that limitation. The more appliances that use this technology, the more likely they will also depend on flash memory, particularly large capacity CF.
I have also seen reports of Japanese or Korean cell phones using CDMA, which include video transmission and receiver capabilities, but I don't know if those phones use any Photobit sensors. Seems like a reasonable application, however. |
