>>You seem to be more aware of the inner workings of Nextel than most of us. Is it safe to assume that Nextel knows that it cannot rest on its DC advantage indefinitely?>>
Agreed....
>>A follow-up question is: Given the history of innovation at Nextel, shouldn't we also believe that Nextel is working on something else to maintain its competitive advantage? The dual-mode and data phone /products don't qualify, since others carriers have similar products in the pipeline.>>
Yes, there are all kinds of things I can just imagine they are working on. Nationwide DC is one BIGGIE.... But the real areas I see so much happening is in IP protocol and IP messaging. This Voice Over IP is just the tip of the iceberg. We are talking about making the Nextel unit come alive - "dance, sing, do backflips", etc. But, again, everyone HAS to be going in this same direction.
The way I liken it....the handheld phone/device/unit becomes a control piece for getting work done via the web - listening to what's new on webpages, retrieving information about our accounts, etc. General Magic's Portico has pioneered this direction but I don't think they will be able to pull this off for lack of resources and the fact that the entire herd is barnstorming into IP to make their substandard DC-less units come alive.
I do think that Nextel will have to make expanding capacity a #1 priority. For as these services from the web find their way into the Joe-average digital PCS phone, the higher capacity networks will be able to handle all the dancing and singing more efficiently.
So we are at a crossroads....
>>Or, having established its place as a "top-three", is Nextel content with status quo?>>
Never..... If so they/we are dead.
>>By the way, which company produced the package to do voice over Internet (the Israeli company)? I know of several companies; I have a small investment in one which is starting out with fax, but will be voice capable. The regulatory issues are just as big as the technical ones.>>
These are being ironed out. Its still very much a "free for all". Great time to do deals.
Nextel's management should SERIOUSLY consider a network marketing component. The phones sell like hotcakes from referrals -the ultimate holy grail of network marketing. Why not add a network marketing organization to the picture.
Do you realize that close to 60% of ALL goods and services in Japan are sold via network marketing - up astronomically over the past 10 years.
E-commerce focused Network marketing is the future of ALL distribution going forward.
Nextel and ALL companies should give up the ghost of trying to "own" their client base. Firms that think they "own" their clients should be put out of business by others that are humble enough to admidt the foundation of all business is trust.
Let the people nurture and maintain the "trust" and let the best products be put into these trust channels. I hope I haven't confused you too much.... |
