Handouts for Lobbyists ToastOn the campaign trail, Barack Obama promised to get tough with lobbyists; "They will not work in my White House," he promised. "We've excluded lobbyists from policymaking jobs." But Obama's stimulus plan has created jobs for those evil lobbyists. Tom Schatz of Citizens Against Government Waste writes that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is dishing out grants for lobbying groups that want to change how Americans live. States can't wait to get their hands on the cash. HHS awarded $372 million in stimulus funds to the states to support programs that are supposed to reduce obesity and curb tobacco use through policymaker education (lobbying)... The Wisconsin Department of Health submitted a $3 million stimulus proposal to hire lobbyists. Well, Obama did say his stimulus plan would create jobs.
