Exactly. The only thing we can be reasonably sure he would do is spend more money. I have trouble finding comfort in that. Particularly when that seems to be his answer to every perceived need, not just education.

I do think there are large and meaningful differences between McCain and Obama

I agree. Unfortunately, for me, they don't all weigh in one direction so it's a question of risk assessment and prioritization. Which still has not produced for me a candidate for whom I can comfortably vote.

I've seen a lot more devil effect elsewhere and a lot more halo effect.

I can't argue that that's a typical reaction in any advocacy scenario, no more prominent here than anywhere else. But, speaking as someone who has been inactive lately as the thread has become consumed with the horse race, in which I do not yet have a pick, the thread has become much more like that dreaded "other" thread than those actively engaged could likely recognize. FWIW.
