I think the management is quite conscious about the stock price and I agree with your statement about near term prospects above.
On the other hand to their credit, the uncertainty with long term predictions is quite high specially in this volatile sector.
The roots probably are from the time ASND has been a small to midsize company when they needed the short term optimism to attract attention so that they could blow away the estimates because the growth rate was high.
As it gets bigger, it will need to tone down as the growth rate stabilizes as CSCO and MSFT have done.
