To prove it, statistically, one has to be able to rule out the factors I cited to CJ which he considered to be "tortured." Statistically, it has has been proved that smoking does cause cancer as well as a plethora of other serious illnesses. Some of those have been backed up with scientific proof, others have been inferred in the face of strong statistical evidence that came about in part by eliminating alternatives.

That condition does not exist in some of the points CJ was making. That is, there is a strong possibility of covariance at the root of some of those points. We should not play fast and loose with statistics unless we're okay with the liberal approaches of ridiculing opposing views and demagoguery, as has been applied with the bogus statistics of Global Warming. I'm sure you're fine with it, but as one who tries to remain open-minded on issues I just can't afford to play that game.
