You have more faith in the justice system than I do.

As a lawyer who sometimes practices in the criminal courts, I know that most accused are guilty. But not all. And there are well documented cases of people being convicted and given the death penalty who were later proved innocent. Not released on technicalities -- PROVED that they did not commit the crime. The most frequent of these is rape cases where DNA testing, not done at the time, proves that the person convicted of the crime did not commit the rape. But there are others -- in one case I recall the actual killer was arrested for another crime and it was found that he, rather than the person convicted, had committed the crime.

Of course, it is a terrible thing to confront somebody's entrenched opinions with mere truth. So I don't expect to change e-bill's mind. But those of us in the system know full well that our justice system is not 100% perfect. And that while there's a famous saying, "everybody in prison is innocent," in reality, some of them actually are.
