Fibermeshr Fibers with Microbanr Product Bulletin
Description:
Fibermeshr fibers with Microbanr antimicrobial micro-reinforcement system for concrete - engineered and manufactured in an ISO 9002 certified manufacturing facility, from 100 percent virgin homopolymer polypropylene fibers containing no reprocessed olefin materials for use as antimicrobial concrete secondary reinforcement. Fibermeshr fibers with Microbanr are for the control of unwanted microbial growth, for the control of cracking due to drying shrinkage and thermal expansion/contraction and lowering of permeability. They increase the impact capacity, shatter resistance and abrasion resistance of concrete. Fibermesh fibers with Microbanr provide residual strength.
Function:
Controls growth of unwanted microbes in and on concrete
Also: Replaces welded wire fabric when used for secondary (crack control) reinforcing in concrete Inhibits and controls the formation of intrinsic cracking in concrete Reinforces against impact forces Reinforces against the effect of shattering forces Reinforces against material loss from abrading forces Reinforces against water migration Provides better durability Imparts toughness to hardened concrete Reduces plastic shrinkage and settlement cracking
Advantages:
Continuous, long-term antimicrobial action Non-magnetic Rustproof Alkali proof Requires no minimum amount of concrete cover Is always positioned in compliance with codes Safe and easy to use Reduces construction time Eliminates welded wire fabric hassle on the jobsite
Uses:
Applicable to all types of concrete which demonstrate a need for the continuous control of unwanted microbial growth and the control of intrinsic crack formation.
Examples:
food service establishments hospitals food processing facilities pools, spas & recreational areas laundry & washrooms veterinary clinics & hospitals decorative water fountains water sports areas blood donating centers livestock & Poultry facilities correctional institutions doctors, dentists & professional offices child care facilities elderly care facilities schools & universities laboratories
Chemical and Physical Properties:
Absorption Nil Fiber Lengths 1/8", 1/2", Graded Melt Point 324ø F(162ø C) Thermal Conductivity Low Acid & Salt Resistance High Specific Gravity 0.91 Modulus (Young's) 0.5 (3.5 kN/mm2) Ignition Point 1,100ø F(590ø C) Electrical Conductivity Low Alkali Resistance Alkali Proof
Application Rate:
The minimum application rate for Fibermeshr fibers with Microbanr is 1.5 lb/yd3 (0.9 Kg/m3) to establish the proper antimicrobial and reinforcing threshold.
Efficacy:
The surface of Fibermesh fibers with Microbanr exhibits antimicrobial activity as documented by the modified Kirby-Bauer method where the product is tested against: a) Staphylococcus Aureus and displays a minimum zone of inhibition of 10 mm with no contact growth and: b) Escherichia Coli and displays a minimum zone of inhibition of 5 mm with no contact growth.
Toxicity:
Microbanr the 100% active antimicrobial agent: a) has a minimum acute oral LD50 of 3000 milligrams per kilograms of body weight and: b) does not act as a primary skin irritant or sensitizer.
Disposal:
Any product containing the additive is unrestricted (with respect to the additive) for disposal in ordinary sanitary or equivalent landfills.
Mix Designs:
Fibermeshr fibers with Microbanr antimicrobial micro-reinforcing is a mechanical, not chemical, process. The addition of Fibermesh fibers with Microbanr does not require any additional water nor other mix design changes at normal rates.
Compatibility:
Fibermesh fibers with Microbanr are compatible with all concrete admixtures and performance enhancing chemicals, but require no admixtures to work.
Guidelines:
DO NOT specify or use Fibermesh fibers with Microbanr for the complete elimination of any and all microbial growth; a substitute for accepted hygienic practices and routine cleaning; the purpose of eliminating all bacteria, yeast, mold or mildew; the sterilization of concrete; the control of complex multi-celled and thick-walled organisms; the control of gross contamination. Fibermeshr fibers with Microbanr should not be used to replace structural, load bearing reinforcement; nor, as a means of using thinner concrete sections than originally designed.
Engineered Configurations and Packaging:
Fibermesh fibers with Microbanr are available in both fibrillated and multifilament configurations. Bags are packed into cartons, shrink wrapped and palletized for protection during shipping. Both Fas-Pakr 2000 and convenience packages are available..
Mini-Specification:
Antimicrobial fibers are for the control of cracking due to drying shrinkage and thermal expansion/contraction and the reduction of permeability. They increase the impact capacity, shatter resistance and abrasion resistance of concrete. Fibermesh fibers with Microban "B" provide the control of unwanted microbial growth. Antimicrobial fibers to be manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility from 100 percent virgin polypropylene, containing no reprocessed olefin materials and specifically engineered and manufactured with the solid antimicrobial preservative Microbanr, to be used in concrete as antimicrobial secondary reinforcement. Antimicrobial fibers must document antimicrobial properties of:
Efficacy: The reinforcing fiber surface must exhibit antimicrobial activity as documented by the Modified Kirby-Bauer method where the product is tested against Staphylococcus Aureus and displays a minimum zone of inhibition of 10 mm with no contact growth and Escherichia Coli and displays a minimum zone of inhibition of 5 mm with no contact growth.
Toxicity: The 100% active antimicrobial agent must: have a minimum acute oral LD50 of 3000 milligrams per kilograms of body weight, and not act as a primary skin irritant or sensitizer. Disposal: Any product containing the additive is unrestricted (with respect to the additive) for disposal in ordinary sanitary or equivalent landfills.
