re "Should Microsoft be your friend?"

"Friend" has nothing to do with it. Microsoft puts it's wares into the market place for me to inspect. I kick tires, scrutinize the price tag, and historically look very skeptically at new versions. I'm am one who, when my 386DX came new with Windows 3.0, I very promptly edited the autoexec.bat file so Windows wouldn't load, and after that I never used Win 3.0. I waited until Win 3.1 came out, and even then I didn't buy it for a while. In fact the only reason I finally bought it was because my favorite tax software program was written to take advantage of Win 3.1 features, and so the Win 3.1 tax software product looked like it was probably superior to the dos version.

No, MS isn't my friend, anymore than Dell Computer or Taco Bell are are my friends.
