So yes, after realizing I want to buy, I wait until the sellers are in a funk. Buying from people who are 'selling at the top' isn't my aim.

Yes, that's also how I feel. There is a small universe of what I feel are high quality companies and it seems that at least once a year one or two of them go into a serious funk. That's when I buy them, and then hold on for the ride back up. Sometimes it takes a while. I'm not sure, but I think that makes me Buffet-ish?

I also set aside a small part of my portfolio for more active trading, not because it generates me higher returns, but because it gives me something to do while waiting for my long term stocks to move. Patience is easier to achieve when you're so distracted you don't even realize you're being patient! :-)
