Why Merkel went to China Germany was having big surpluses with the EU periphery until periphery collapsed 2007 just before the Finance collapse of 2008 hit. Immediately Germany shifted its exports to outside the EU and continued having a surplus. Germany surplus with the US kicked up real good after EU periphery tanked while its imports from the US plateaued. No wonder DJT is after Germany for the big surplus!
