When things get very bad, we have to get someone more grounded in reality than our space cadet politicians - see Jerry Brown for an example. In California, actors are much more down to earth than our politicians. Ronald Reagan, who studied economics, controlled state government spending when California was effectively running on credit cards. He was a big spender later at the federal level, but he didn't try to have California win the Cold War. Arnold Schwarzennegger helped steer the state away from bankruptcy after the professional politicians went wild with spending. How wild ? California tax revenues soared with the dot-com boom - and the politicians spent every bit of the new revenue and more and even went far into defict well before the boom ended. The state politicians had a economic boom, and then p*ssed away all the money ! In LA-LA Land, the actors are the realists and the politicians are the air heads.
