The Black Hole Power of "The Collective".....
>>>>You are just stating a preference for government over any possible individual or community action that would be voluntary. The collective.>>
Government exists to do the dirty jobs that nobody else wants to do. Dealing with criminals. Picking up the garbage. Taking care of sick people who have no money or insurance. None of us want to do this stuff, but we need it done, so we levy taxes and hire people to do it for us. Of course not everyone agrees on what needs to be done; that's why we have a political process.
>>shouldn't individuals and groups of individuals, like the ones who attend to health crises in foreign countries be given a chance or do we go for the collective again.>>
They barely scratch the surface in foreign countries, and their resources are extremely limited. Somebody still has to pay for it, and voluntary donations will never suffice.
It is easy to say that only those who benefit should pay, but it is difficult to precisely quantify the benefits, since better primary care for the indigent reduces everybody's exposure to disease. One untreated TB case hacking his lungs out on a crowded subway car can cause damage that is difficult to quantify.>>>>
Whenever "the collective" takes precedence over "the individual" you have, by definition, a "black hole", the existence of which derives it's sole energy and power from ONE thing - ie. personal trust.
There is no way "the collective" can exist without personal trust being "used", "assumed", "taken", "abused" etc.
But what's interesting is that even in "the collective" you still have a single, personal point of political power and control that can't be denied.
So "the collective" is actually a ruse, a charade which, as you say, "does the dirty work" in areas which we, as individuals, don't care to go or tread.
This "black hole" power of "the collective" will always increase on the basis of ONE force: personal failure and resulting breakdown that happens when INDIVIDUALS do not accept and take responsibility for living a life of service to others.
Freedom carries an enormous personal responsibility to live a moral, ethical life not only for one's personal benefit, but for the benefit which your example sets for others.
The more we abuse this incredible gift - freedom - by living a selfish life the more we will depend on "the collective" to do the things which we simply don't "get" or understand ourselves.
The less we "help and serve" others the more the power of "the collective" will grow - right beneath our eyes and noses without us even knowing what happened.
For every "Columbine" there are cheers and high fives inside "the collective."
For every personal moral/ethical failure and collapse, there are more cheers and high fives inside "the collective."
For the very nature and power of "the collective" is to take power and control from individuals by assuming and taking the rights and responsibilities which they didn't feel empowered to hold onto.....away.
Peace.
