Mr. Gilder, its an honor to talk to someone I have read and followed for some time. You have been a great source of information for me and many in here. You are often quoted in many different threads from Fiberspace to Last Mile technologies.
Looking into the future,I was wondering what your opinion was with respect to fiber carrying all information into our homes. I have read of Sanders a division of Lockheed Martin manufacturing a system of microcells to carry wireless telephony over HFC. I have also read of LMDS and HFC being compatable and even complementing one another. Their bandwidth is similar from what I can tell and LMDS has the ability to fill in the spaces where fiber is not present.
What do you also think of new digital technologies to carry data over cable? Is this a step forward,or a step sideways?
What do you think of Hitachi's trial of optical switching technologies over MCI's network? This too I believe is a digital switch. Are there any true optical switches in production or trials or are they all just blocking wavelength switches?
Do you think sCDMA will help the robustness of signals across fiber and will be adopted commercially?
Hiram
p.s. its a pleasure and any response will be printed and lamanated and placed on my wall next to my dog's picture.
