IDG's Computerworld Selects the 100 Hottest Emerging Technology Companies
FRAMINGHAM, Mass., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Startup companies developing
products to build, operate and manage high speed computer networks or software
that runs on these networks are among the top newcomers to the information
technology field according to Computerworld's list of 100 Hot Emerging
Companies published today.
The 100 Hot Emerging Companies editorial supplement will be bound into the
September 29 issue of Computerworld and will be available on the
@Computerworld website located at computerworld.com.
Computer network infrastructure companies, electronic commerce software
providers, web search and push technology purveyors and customer service
software developers dominated the 100 Hot Emerging Companies list, noted
Alan Alper, Editor of Computerworld's Magazines Group.
"Organizations today are completely dependent on computer networks to
share information with customers, clients and coworkers," said Alper.
"Companies developing networking technologies that allow organizations to
expand operations, work more closely with business partners, enhance products
or services offerings or improve customer loyalty are sizzling right now."
To qualify for the list, companies had to have started up after January 1,
1990, had to have less than $100 million in sales, and had to be for-profit
ventures. To compile the 100 Hot Emerging Companies list Computerworld
surveyed 600 IT managers and 70 consultants and venture capitalists asking
them to name startups who they felt had the potential to solve business
problems or generate business value. Nominees were then judged by a
blue-ribbon panel on their technological innovation and potential to either
solve information systems (IS) problems or help generate business value for
their customers.
"Network-focused companies made the list because they realized early on
the growing importance of the Internet for information exchange and the need
for networked software that can be used across an organization and between
business partners." said Alper.
What will it take for these companies to continue their growth? According
to Alper, they'll need to develop technologies that create higher speed and
easier to manage networks that support improved information sharing and
decision making between departments, across organizations and between
business partners.
"Large and medium-sized organizations want more than instant cure alls.
They want technology partners that have a long term vision, with products
which comply with evolving industry standards and a barrel of customer
references," said Alper.
