The amount of insurance required of a subcontractor will vary from contractor to contractor. Generally, a contractor (CSMA in this case) would require their subcontractor to have insurance coverage and limits that at least match or exceed their own coverage. Therefore, in the case of a major claim, the claimant will not find deeper pockets on the contractor.

I imagine that in Utah, there is not a state mandated general liability minimum limit. Therefore, one could find subcontractors (drillers) with minimal coverage, and others with greater coverage, and even layers of excess coverage.
