Hi Gregor,

Logged on and see I have to do my homework here and on the other threads too.
First I hope you have had a great day in the Lord. Know also that I stand in agreement with all requests you have put before the throne of grace.
In particular I will remember little Brooke in prayer and have lifted her up with my family as well. God will be glorified in all things and we are ever in His tender care, subject to His perfect loving grace.

Concerning Isaiah 54:8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer.

I can see and agree with you that there is a parallel to the situation on the cross in this verse, however the chapter in it's entirety still has a bearing on Israel as well as on the Gentiles.
vs 4 ... for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of they widowhhood any more.
Christ never sinned. Israel has.
vs 7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; (time is not much of an issue with God) but with great mercies will I gather thee.
Who is he gathering?
Rather than post them at length here check out in particular Jeremiah 31:1-4. Also Galations 5:26-28
I do however see a parallel here as you have said.

<<The additional torture he endured on the cross if you look at it this way is beyond what God requires.>>

No argument there at all. Talk about paying our debt!
All I can say is that Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53 fortells His suffering in prophecy. As a result it had to transpire with no change of mind or the prophecy would be false and we know that could never happen.
In Christ,
John
