Well, I agree that the Democrats made their own bed on this one. Even the campaign financing scandal has moments of high silliness in it, like the allegation that by using White House phones to solicit contributions Clinton and/or Gore violated the law. I suppose they did, but what a stupid law! It seems reform laws naturally go to excesses in trying to correct real problems.
