Why would it? win98 is win95 with few new features and support. It is an upgrade that could be done with a patch, but Gates can't charge 109 for a patch. Funny.. we're still running DOS with an elegant GUI.

What about 3rd party? software: Isn't the guts of the OS the same? so they don't need to do anything special to sell products on win98. IF win98 doesn't come through.. big deal.. they can still sell their products for win95. Hardware: What difference does it make? unless you're buying a DVD or want to watch TV using your computer.. which I believe is possible on win95 with a patch if MS chooses so. Heck, with IE and the tons of other MS patches, you're basically upgrading the OS. IE upgrades the kernel. So what's the big deal with win98?
I'm not even upgrading if I get it for free.

If a 3rd party depends on such OS so-called upgrades, maybe they shouldn't exist!
