I agree that the market sometimes doesn't make sense... but... in this case I seem to recall that when the banks initially announced their merger plans, their stocks fell? So the fact that the merger won't be happening could cause the stock to rise? (ie. the market likes that news?)

Also, I remember over a month ago CIBC warned that it was going to have a really bad quarter (I seem to recall something around 100 millino being mentioned back then?) It is possible that the market had already taken the poor earnings into account?

I still would have expected a bit more of a negative reaction when it was made official though.... I probably would have made the same decision that you did.

You win some, hopefully you lose less.....

This certainly has been a weird week.
