** Toy e-tailers pace e-commerce gains

Traffic to e-commerce sites in the opening days of December
increased 44 percent over the same week last year and increased 38
percent over last week, according to research released Thursday.
Notable changes included shifts in rankings among top toy sites,
while year-to-year comparisons showed increases in unique visitors
in nearly every major e-commerce category, with online department
stores in the lead, according to the report issued by Media Metrix
(MMXI).

Three of the top 10 e-commerce sites are focused on toys:
EToys.com (ETYS), at No. 3; Toysrus.com (TOY), at No. 4; and
KBkids.com, at No. 10.

Amazon.com was the e-commerce site with the most traffic, visited
by 6.1 million people during the first week of the month, double
the 3.1 million clicking in the first week of December last year.
EBay.com (EBAY) was the No. 2 site, and Buy.com was fifth. Media
Metrix said apparel e-commerce sites generated the largest
percentage of traffic increase, with 134 percent more traffic last
week than a year ago.
