Thought it was interesting in the San Francisco Chronicle from Saturday...on the front page of the business section, there were two articles of interest (at least to me)...on the left side at the top was a little piece about how "MCI Planning to Cut 1,200 From Workforce" and the article goes on to say that MCI will cut 2.3 % of its workforce to concentrate on its "push" into the local phone biz.

On the other side (the top right), they had an article on how "Pac Bell Scrambles to Hire Workers", explaining how Pac Bell has "embarked on one of the biggest hiring binges in history to meet surging demand for new telephone lines for home offices and the Internet." The article went on to say that from '92 to '95, the number of lines the phone co. installed annually doubled to 362,000 and that last year, the number appears to have doubled again to 700,000. Now, that is growth (more Pots) and that is, of course, near all the Silicon Valley ((not to mention what all the hot tech world is doing to rents around this part...whew!))...I hope ADSL gets its foot in the door here soon because much of the world's internet traffic runs through the area...

Just thought the articles showed something that was happening here in the Bay Area...not new to anyone here (nor myself, considering I bought into a second line last summer), but it is important...the local loops are getting loopy here and most of it's because of the Internet.

I hope all those 'bigger' corporate guys in their nice offices down in Santa Clara see the need to relieve some congestion soon. :-)

ALL IMHO
