The article may have a lot of anecdotes, but it also points out that the GDP has stayed positive the last couple of quarters largely because of rapidly rising exports versus imports. Here are the official figures for June, if you prefer statistics to anecdotes:

These show the trade in goods and services is rapidly shrinking. At this rate, excluding oil imports, the US trade deficit will disappear in a couple of years.
