The statistics show that, despite what Bostonians might think, the warm air is actually winning out across the Lower 48 states. According to the National Climatic Data Center, there have been 1,605 daily high temperature records set or tied in the U.S. in the past 30 days, with 1,408 record daily warmest low temperatures. That's compared to 107 daily record cold high temperatures and 63 record lows set during the same period. Even more telling is the fact that there has been a huge disparity in the number of monthly temperature records, with 188 monthly record highs set or tied during the last 30 days, along with 47 monthly record lows, compared to zero records for the coldest high temperature recorded in the same period, and just two monthly records for the coldest overnight low temperature.

Rapid City, South Dakota, for example, set a record for the warmest low temperature ever recorded in the month of February when the temperature failed to drop below 52 degrees Fahrenheit on Feb. 7, breaking the old record of 50 degrees set back in 1932.
