Well it looks as if we needn't worry about the zanier forms of poststructuralism any more (except in the form of offerings by people who've been working on whatever it is for the last ten years and are only now getting it out). The "new historicism" seems to have been a flop, possibly because very few had much of a grasp on what it was, or was supposed to be. What next? There is, of course, the deplorable movement toward eliminating footnotes entirely, which I suppose is indeed affirmation of the view that history is entirely a matter of opinion and taste.
