DJ Bestel Plans US,Mexican IPO -2: Global Light Owns 49%

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Bestel SA said Thursday it plans to file for an initial public
offering of its shares in the U.S. and in Mexico.
In a press release, the Mexican broadband and Internet company said it expects to
complete the offering in the second quarter of 2000, subject to market conditions and
regulatory approvals.
Bestel said it plans to use proceeds primarily to expand its fiber optic network. The
company's network uses Mexican railroad rights of way and extends over 4,000 kilometers,
with part of the network reaching into the southern U.S.
Global Light Telecommunications Inc. (GBT) of Vancouver, B.C., owns 49% of the
company, with a unit of privately held Mexican firm Varo SA holding the remaining 51%.
