To your question, I don't see the semi-industry returned to all-time-high yet as the DOW. AMAT, TXN, LSI all lost more than 20% compare to Sept, 97. Even Intel is still 10% lower! The impact of Asian crisis won't fully reveal until mid 1998 but I believe the worst is overed. Semi/Chip industry should have a nice rally in the near term as demand in Europe is high and more evidences suggest that Asian is recovering.

About xDSL picks, I fully agree with you and Todd that PAIR is a better choice for long term. xDSL will provide better QOS and security than cable modem. CDSL looks promising for the fact it use standard phone jack, I am not sure will PAIR commit to this technology. But I believe cablemodem will find its way to many home users.
