Being a man of conviction is a good thing only if you are capable of switching views when the evidence so requires. I am not increasing my short position but IMO this is not time to cover either. I think your advice is right. If you are not short now it is probably better to wait for the trend to become your friend, and/or until after the split. People have become kind of religious about splits.
