I have thought the same thing, but the factors driving the transition include cost as well as capacity and form. The cost/capacity side favors hard drives into the foreseeable future, but eventually that could change.

I'm sure the iPod Classic's days are numbered as the demand shifts to the Touch, though. They already did away with the 160GB, probably because of the sales numbers. As the Touch gets into higher capacities, 64GB and eventually 128GB, unless there is a compelling price advantage to the Classic, it's gone.
