Sad, but true.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the textbook approval process (at the level it is now) really gathered steam in the late 80s and into the 90s as the PC syndrome took effect.

OK - oddly, I can't figure out which faction was more responsible for it. On the one hand I know the PC people were probably behind the selected reading list that they have in California... except the family groups were barking at the inclusion of Maya Angelou - not just for their kids mind you, but for everybody else. I don't think anybody is truly in favor of individual or school choice in these matters.
