<How can they say Intel takes back the speed crown when AMD never produced?>
<has anybody even seen a Athwipe 733 advertised anywhere?>
No one. Because Athlon-733 does not exist or
was ever planned. 733= 5.5x133MHz

Never produced? You must be confused
with availability of Floppermine-733, pal.

Go better check what was produced and what was not.
For example:

microx-press.com
PENTIII 733 - "not available"
PENTIII 700 - "not available"

PENTIII 600 - 1307 in stock

Maximum distribution is at PENTIII 500E - 2936
in stock !!!

And compare:
microx-press.com
AMD K7 650MHz - 390 in stock
AMD K7 700MHz - 586 in stock
AMD K7 750MHz - ETA02/01

Once again: K7-700 in stock, PIII-700 - "not available".
So, who has produced, and who has not?
