Peter,

I have been accumulating a basket of Regular Preferreds in my corporation. The plan has been to transfer to an individual account should they receive full dividend exclusion. As IG mentioned Dividend paying preferreds receive a substantial exclusion from income tax when held in a C-corp.
Going forward one must be careful to not fall in the trap of most recent issues that pay interest rather than dividends. I have been advised that interest paying preferred do not qualify for tax exclusion in a C-corp and will not qualify in tax reform. This is due to the fact that the interest expense to the paying Corporation is a tax deduction and therefore not "double taxed".

A very good web site:
quantumonline.com
Select Stock Lists and Scroll down to "Regular Preferred Stock Table" This is a rather complete lists of Preferred stocks that qualify for exclusion due to dividend. It also provides most of the detailed information one needs regarding the particular issue. Many are pink sheet or OTC.
If there is sufficient interest I would enjoy participating in a separate board for discussion purposes.

J.D.
