That certainly is a good car. Not the safest but reasonably safe...You decided not to pay the extra for additional safety for yourself and your passengers. Didn't you feel it was worth it? We all make trade offs. You drive a reasonable car that does not get the best mileage but does get good mileage,... so you contribute to more fuel consumption than necessary, add more than necessary to pollution, yet do better than others.
