This depends on your broker.

I understand that some will let the position "hang" at the last price, and any margin+profits which were released are yours to play with, as long as enough margin remains to cover the position.

Sometimes a broker can help you out by calling around to see if anyone has certificates.

You can also post messages on SI and Motlrey fool and offer to buy the certificates from any longs that got stuck.
