WHEN THE DAMS ARE GONE when the colors in Bright Angel Shale at sunrise and the patterns of pink granite in Vishnu Schist and the sight of a condor circling in an updraft and a small cactus growing out of a crack in a rock with one withered spent flower on it are treasures to be preserved at all cost when Progress means restoring Nature's perfection when doing nothing is always a seriously considered option when we get our energy without flooding valleys or tearing down mountains or poisoning the air or invading other countries when we abandon the illusion that we own anything and understand that everything is held in trust for future generations when all life is sacred even little or ugly life even life that earns nothing even life that has no lawyers to protect its interests then... then... then the dams will be gone and the Colorado will flow free from the Rockies to the ocean - by Jacob Snyder, in the Grand Canyon, July 2009
