Where ever you heard that the average composition of the crust is 45 ppb Pt, it's gotta be wrong. That's a crazy number. The only number I could find was Pd= 1ppb in the 'continental crust'. Why else would detecting PGE (Platinum group elements) be SO hard, requiring neutron activation.
