In light of your cross-interest of other drive makers, how about some more WD commentary?

I'd like confirmation on this information that I heard from a reliable source: WD has recently gone to IBM and cut some sort of deal for some leading-edge technology. Reportedly, one of WD's new drives is actually an IBM design. However, I was told that this is backfiring since WD's customers want a solid second source for IBM products and since the heads and design are from IBM, WD is not being considered for that role. The net is that WD's products are being rejected at some OEMs due to the IBM technology.

Can anyone confirm this?? (I promise not to mention WD on this thread for a long time)

By the way, I am a long Quantum long, and yes, WD's future is critical to the success of the disk drive industry. If they go away, things should pick up for the rest of us.
