[Southwestern Bell Announcement]
Bill: Great news from Southwestern Bell. Your article states: <<IITS increases network capacity by splitting the phone network into two traffic lanes. Internet calls -- "data calls" -- now are automatically diverted from the existing network and routed to a new, high-speed network ... IITS was created and developed in conjunction with Northern Telecom (Nortel).>>
I note that Westell is in collaboration with Nortel, and is likely supplying part of the high-speed link: Nov. 12 /CNW-PRN/ - Northern Telecom (Nortel), and Westell, a leading ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) innovator and access systems provider, today announced an agreement to form a global strategic alliance to accelerate availability of end-to-end broadband network solutions for telecommunications and Internet service providers. The alliance will combine Nortel's leading position in broadband technologies, network security software, and end-to-end network solutions with Westell's global leadership position in the development and deployment of ADSL systems. It will bring together complementary capabilities required to provision large-scale networks for the delivery of broadband services, such as super-fast Internet and remote database access, teleworking and emerging multimedia services. ADSL-enabled services can best be deployed commercially on an end-to-end broadband services platform. The Nortel - Westell alliance will provide a turnkey solution that includes the core ATM backbone, signaling and service control, ADSL access, security technology, and systems integration.>>
