Which screening tools are you using?
I use my own screening tools, which I've developed for my computers: an IBM RAMAC 305, with 5 megabytes of data on fifty two-foot-wide platters; and an Altair 8800, with an Intel 8080 processor, built from a kit. I recently updated the Altair, adapting it for a rudimentary Internet connection. I know my hardware might seem somewhat antiquated (Gonzongo has called it "woefully inadequate"), but my system has been so effective that I've been reluctant to move on to new things.
I then research each ... then see if their phone # works.
Yes, I use the same system (a telephone call) to confirm that a company is fundamentally sound -- that it, well, exists. Surprisingly, however, when I tried this with several large corporations, they failed the test. I just couldn't get through. I began to doubt whether some Fortune 500 companies existed. That's one reason I stopped investing in them and moved exclusively to penny stocks -- penny stocks of companies that had working phones. (Incidentally, I don't think the Social Security Administration exists, either. And I have my doubts about the White House.)
