Metricom Announces Executive Appointments
LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 1998--Metricom (NASDAQ:MCOM - news) today announced several strategic executive appointments to further the company's position as a leader of wireless information-access solutions.
Ralph B. Muse, Executive Vice President of Operations and Engineering; John Wernke, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing; and Dale Marquart, General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Administration have all been named as new members of the Metricom management team. William M. Brasier, Director of Systems Engineering, has been promoted to Vice President and Program Manager of the company's new high-speed network development project.

The additions complement the rest of Metricom's executive team, which consists of Timothy Dreisbach, president and CEO; Bob Bickers, Vice President of Manufacturing; Lee Gopadze, Senior Vice President of Right-of-Way; Jim Nelson; Vice President of Network Operations; and Vanessa Wittman, Senior Vice President and CFO.
Ralph B. Muse, newly appointed Executive Vice President of Operations and Engineering, brings to Metricom over 20 years of technology management experience. Though Muse has had considerable experience with larger companies, such as General Electric, he also has a proven track record managing start-ups and helping to grow small companies. He has been instrumental in moving revenues of a number of companies and business units from the small, $25 - $50 million range into the $100 - $300 million range. Prior to joining the company, Muse was President and General Manager of CSI ZeitNet, Inc., where he was instrumental in the development of Cabletron's new line of state-of-the-art ATM switching products. He was also President and CEO of KENETECH Windpower/KENETECH Corporation; principal consultant with Booz Allen & Hamilton, Inc.; and Vice President-General Manager of ABB, a computer integrated manufacturing business.
John Wernke, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, has over 15 years of experience in achieving business-building results in the Client/Server and Open Systems market. Prior to Metricom, he served as Vice President of Enterprise Product Marketing at Harbinger Corporation, where he was instrumental in positioning the company as an industry leader, as well as achieving a revenue goal of over $40 million on a $4.2 million budget. He has also served as a Product Marketing Manager at OpenVision, where he directed the positioning of storage products, accounting for over 80% of the company's revenues.
Dale Marquart, General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Administration, has over 15 years of achieving innovative business operations solutions, highly-profitable customer contract negotiations, award-winning revenue production, and legal affairs management. He previously served as General Counsel and Senior Director of International Operations at Premenos Corporation, where he managed the company's legal affairs, including all corporate matters and customer contracts, and all international operations. Marquart has extensive knowledge and expertise in the fields of strategic market planning and business development. He also served as the Senior Director of Business Development and Field Operations at Boole & Babbage, an industry leader in systems management software.
William M. Brasier, Vice President, Program Manager of Metricom's high-speed development project, was formerly Metricom's Director of Systems Engineering. He has over 15 years of experience in engineering design and management. During his tenure at Metricom, he led hardware developments for Metricom's UtiliNet(TM) radio product line and led hardware and systems design teams during Ricochet(TM)and high speed network development. Prior to joining the Company, he was the lead systems designer and Manager of RF Systems at Condor Systems, Inc., during a 10 year period when the company grew from $3 million in revenue and 25 employees to over $47 million in revenue and 325 people. He has been published in Microwave Systems News, Microwaves and RF, and Defense Electronics. He was also a Member of the Technical Staff at Watkins Johnson Co.
